The Malaysian Centre for Constitutionalism and Human Rights (MCCHR) a.k.a Pusat Rakyat LoyarBurok is a community-based organisation based in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur. Established in March 2011, its mission is to promote and protect human rights in Malaysia in accordance with established international human rights standards and principles.
MCCHR carries out a number of projects. Under its strategic litigation component, it files a number of test cases/appeals against Court decisions to effect changes in human rights; and organises training for lawyers and law students. Its civic education component, UndiMsia! is the first-of-its-kind civic education project in Malaysia with the aim to increase ownership and strengthen the effective participation of Malaysian youth in the democratic process. In recent years, MCCHR has expanded its focus to also include law and policy reform work, through its strategic legislative advocacy program.
Job Title: Accounts and Finance Assistant
Start Date: 1 March 2025
Duration: 1 year with the possibility of extension

Salary (gross): RM2,500 – RM3,000/month depending on experience

OBJECTIVES
As an Accounts and Finance Assistant at MCCHR, you will support the organisation with daily accounting and financial tasks, ensuring the smooth operation of its financial activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Finance and Administrative Manager, the Accounts and Finance Assistant performs the following responsibilities:
- Ensuring bookkeeping is in order at the end of every month which includes compiling relevant supporting documentation, matching the receipts with the bank statements, maintaining data entry in the accounting system, and promptly updating the contributions database.
- Updating financial records. This includes filing the monthly accounts, taking guidance from the Finance and Administrative Manager on the upkeep of financial and grant files such as opening and closing files, and preparing files for the auditing process.
- Keeping track of accounts payable and receivable which includes compiling office bills for payments, preparing payment vouchers, cheque payments and other financial documents, and ensuring suppliers and project expenses are paid on time.
- Assisting in the preparation of financial reports. This includes compiling invoices, receipts, payment vouchers, quotations and other relevant documents, and reconciling activity expenses with Human Rights Strategists for the reporting period.
- Assisting in logistical preparations for activities and events which includes preparing payment vouchers for per diems, ensuring the payment vouchers are signed with complete details, and making cash/cheque payments during MCCHR’s activities and events.
- Assisting the Finance and Administrative Manager in Financial Meetings with the Chief Human Rights Strategist (CHRS) and the Board of Directors. This includes compiling data for financial projections, setting up a Finance meeting, and minute-taking.
- Assisting in the company’s governance matters i.e., Accountants, Auditors, Tax Agents, Company Secretaries and/or other related regulatory bodies. This includes compiling data and supporting documentation, substantiating responses to queries, and securing the board’s signatures for resolutions and other governance documents.
- Assist the Finance and Administrative Manager in the preparation of quarterly funds request. This includes checking bank balance and informing the Finance and Administrative Manager when cash is running low and maintaining a system to monitor and forecast cash requirements.
- Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- An ideal candidate should hold a diploma or degree in accounting or a related field, such as business administration. Additional professional certifications, accreditations, or licenses are highly desirable.
Experience:
- A minimum of 1 year of working experience in accounting or a related field is required.
- Experience of working with a non-profit organisation is an added advantage.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in both oral and written Bahasa Melayu and English is essential. Knowledge of a third language is advantageous.
