Borak Rakyat #1: To judicial review or not to judicial review?

By Firdaus Husni & Azad Akbar with Nizam Bashir
4 September 2024

In this very first episode of BoRAKyat TV, our guest Nizam Bashir demystifies the concept of judicial review with hosts Firdaus Husni and Azad Akbar. How does this tool hold decision-makers accountable? How does it protect the rule of law and safeguard human rights? Let’s discuss!

Nizam Bashir holds an LL.B. from Bond University, Australia, and a Diploma in Syariah Law and Legal Practice from International Islamic University, Malaysia. Admitted as a Syariah lawyer in Malacca, he has been actively involved in State Bar and Bar Council activities since 2006, focusing on human rights, constitutional law, and legal aid. Nizam is also an esteemed author, contributing to “Breaking the Silence: Voices of Moderation – Islam in a Constitutional Democracy.” He frequently gives talks on legal research, participates as a judge in mooting competitions, and appears in the media discussing constitutional and public interest issues. He has spoken at the UN on Palestine and at various international conferences on media freedom and juvenile justice.
